Muscovy keepers share your pics!

Wow! Small world and all that.

And as I worked on the coop and such this afternoon I did see the crows, so they are still here. Goodie goodie!
I don't know where ours were the other day when a sparrow hawk was after my bantam game roo. boy was it a close one I came around the side of the house as the roo leaped over the fence with this hawk coming in for the grab, I screamed the hawk stopped in mid air and flew into a tree, I proceeded to throw a rock at him [ I can't hit the broad side of a barn] but it scared him off. MY poor roo was terrified so was I.

Do you have problems with them getting all iced up? We are having a pretty good cold snap here in northern Wisconsin. I gave mine fresh water this morning and some of the girls decided to get in the little tub and take a bath. Now they are all full of ice

I had to put a little heater in the coop to help thaw them out. it was -12 degrees this morning. Time to take there little tub away( the bottom of a 55 gal barrel) and give them only a bucket i guess.

What we do (In Wisconsin as well!) Is take one of the horses Floating water tank heaters, take the cover (sort of a cross of 4 wires + ) and wire it over a heated water dish for dogs and plug it it (Or else you can make your own cover with a thick wire in 4 peices in a cross, so they can't hop in) ... We keep them over winter in our chicken coop, separate from the chickens.. This keeps them from bathing and making a mess, but they still get water.. :) Hope it helps you...

Luckily, my kids are old enough that I get them to do most of the poultry processing, but I do help on occasion. I find it harder to kill the muscovy than my chickens. The muscovy are cuter and have more personality or something.

The rodent population in the house.... I have boys catch them and toss them back outside. My boys are quick.

OK, i have been totally procrastinating! I need to go clean out the cesspit of a coop where those baby muscovy are, it is warm today, 26F

It's happened, last year a few of my girls insisted on swimming in the horses heated trough, well this year i just gave it to the ducks and did something different for the horses. No one tried bathing today, way to cold... but i try to keep them from doing that, mind you my calls like to swim in this horribly cold weather? but they are more hardy with cold IMO... There are mallards that never leave this country despite winters terrible grasp.

I know I had ducks in the heated buckets today, I didn't catch them but the buckets were half full and they don't drink that much water. They will try to swim in anything.
