Muscovy keepers share your pics!

i am new to ducks! lol this is the first time i have ever had any lay so i have no idea what they should or shouldn't do. they didn't make a nest and one girl isn't laying her eggs in anything. she's just dropping them. but they are both being a little meaner then normal, biting at me. they are first time moms so i don't know if they'll do what they should or not.

That's ok. Sounds to me like there just normal laying vs actually trying to start to brood... Usually when there broody, they start building a nest and accumulating there egg quota which will vary, my last duck sat on only 5 eggs. They also get this odd stance, low to ground, wings out.. chirpy type behaviour. Have you seen your drake covering them?(mating?) that would be a good sign, how is your weather?

they have mated, they do that a lot lol. some times i think the girls get tired of him covering them so often. it rained hard last night here so i put the girls and there eggs in one of the houses and closed them off. i didn't want the ones out in the open to get to much water. will they get broody maybe?

Anything could happen, personally I have never been able to make a duck go broody either they do or they don't ... My last duck being a great example, I removed the eggs daily, even trying to outsmart her by coming back later because she was sitting on some in the AM lol she eventually outsmarted me and didn't move so I threw in the towel which is how I got the pack of 4 right now....

so they are just going to keep laying and letting the eggs die? is something wrong with my girls?
The eggs are not alive with a duckling until one of your ducks decides to go broody, once she makes that decision she will start sitting on her eggs, probably at night till she has what she feels is a good # to sit on, then she will be gin to sit around the clock except to get off maybe once or twice a day to eat. swim and poop then right back on the nest she'll go. After about 5-7 days of her sitting constant if you candle the eggs you'll see the begining of veins growing and that is the begining of the duckling. She is not letting the eggs die just because she isn't ready to sit yet.

will she be more likely to sit them next time?
Your not giving your ducks a chance to go broody, leave the eggs and wait, thats about all you can do at this point. she'll either go broody or she won't, like GQ said most Muscovy's are great brooders and mothers, but theres always the exception. but I think if you'll be patient you'll get a broody, I have 10 ducks and so far none of mine have shwon any interest in brooding, last year we already had duckling, so patience is the word here. Give them time.

I had to leave my babies for a weekend and was not able to collect when i got back I had a broody duck and hen UGH! and I sware she makes daily rounds and collects MORE eggs! Glad I have the ones marked.
