My drake has started flying over the fence, so I may have to catch him up and clip his wings, which I'm not looking forward to doing. I don't think he will leave his hens though. (all of which are clipped)

I only clipped one of my drakes this year the other 2 are full flight, so far even though they fly in the half acre fenced part they haven't gone anywhere, I think your right he won't leave but preds are a major concern. My drake has started flying over the fence, so I may have to catch him up and clip his wings, which I'm not looking forward to doing. It may be a bad egg...I notice as the laying hen/duck realizes the egg isn't as warm as the rest, they boot it from the nest...Or could be something completely different... ;-)

They won't get mad well the female will try bite u but what I do is just sneak my hand under them and they stand up I take the bites but as long as you don't take her eggs away she won't leave the nest till they hatch. And they really don't care that much about me touching the eggs asking as I'm not constantly picking them up...btw very nice birds there pfspring will look ver nice my babies are very special to me there father died the day before they hatchedHere's my drake protecting the nest!![]()

I have a question about the candling....how can I take out the eggs if they're always sitting on it? I'm worried about my ducks (especially the drake) getting mad.
Could he fly into the yard where the guard dogs are?Yes, thats my concern too. Thats how I lost that hen a few weeks ago. But, since then I have moved them to the other side of the field were they are near our neighbors guard dogs, so they should be all right.
