Hi,

Wouldd anyone know what type of nest box would be better for muscovies and if straw would be a good choice of bedding for the nest.

Thanks.

THey like to nest in dark places and will make a nest of anything they can find then they will line the nest with their down.

I have one scovey girl that has taken to nesting in my laying buckets so i leaned a peice of plywood over the front so she could have some move privacy and not attack everything that got to close

Muscovies like safe-feeling places. I had one hen that made a nest under my chicken nest boxes, but in the corner of my coop.
I also took a 15 gallon barrel, cut the end off one side, and put down hay/straw. I had 2 nest in there at the same time.
I also had one make a nest in my hay barn. I cut the side off of a cardboard box and placed it over her (so I wouldn't accidentally step on her nest). She didn't seem to mind and hatched 22 ducklings :)

So yes, I think straw or hay is the best bedding. It is a great insulator and easy for them to bury their eggs in and keep them warm. Plus it helps to keep the eggs clean which keeps the nest clean as well.

watch in my profile pictures please they are give babys 100% in my farm :)
sorry right now i don't have permissions to create attachments here :)
