Muscovy trying to sit on just 3 eggs?? Whats up?

How old is she? I had a young female that was "sitting" shortly after she started laying. She was just confused, naturally instincts kick in and they know they are made to have eggs and sit on them. And at such a young age they try. I would take the eggs out of the nest including the decoy. (If they are laying and laying where you desire there is no need for the decoy now.) Let her come out and enjoy being a young duck. If you WANT her sitting to hatch I would give it maybe a few weeks and then leave the eggs that she lays in there and see if she understands then. You can even hold the eggs aside and give them back after you have about 8 or so and give her clutch a good jump start. It won't discourage her from sitting in the future. I was on here asking the same questions last year. But my female is now sitting on 13 fertile duck eggs that are due to hatch (approx) 3-17-12 and doing a great job! When she started she would (what I call) "semi-sit". I assume she was doing it to keep the eggs from freezing and cracking since our weather was so cold. She would go in and sit periodically but wasn't committed to it FULL TIME. But once she had the size clutch she was happy with she sat all the time. She comes out once in the morning for food and water. I don't see her off the eggs again all day. But I don't watch 24-7 either.
GOOD LUCK! Keep us posted!

Im just letting her do her thing.....She seems determined and doing good. She has 8 in there now and only comes out once a day for food as far as I can tell.

nope......probably won't........Nature never candles eggs and my drakes are pretty persistent

Try to coax her away from the nest with food and/or water. Then take the eggs. If this does not work (I know not even food or water could coax my girl off of her nest) then you may have to take her off of the nest. I really don't think this will stop her laying all together. I had A duck laying on eggs, and I moved her off to put in one that had fallen out. This did scare her, but only stay off her nest for at the most and hour. Of course, this can differentiate depending on the personality of the duck, so if you are really scared of her not laying, then IDK what to tell you... :(

If she really wants to sit you should candle them b/c you don't want to exhaust her by sitting 35 days on them with no results... so if no fertile you can put some fertile chicken eggs that requier 21 days to hatch or simply remove them or the bad one to make her more comfortable or to let her start her new clutch
hope they'll be fertile... well lucky you... mine is one year old and still not laying any ;)
