Hi all!
I have a 1.5 yr old scovy girl that originally started with egg peritonitis. We’ve been dealing with that for a while. She’s been on metacam and Baytril.
We tried to take her off meds and she went downhill quick. X-rays and bloodwork show an enlarged liver and her liver numbers are off.
I’ve read in this forum milk thistle and aloe juice can help. But does anyone know dosage?
She’s currently on Baytril and Clavamox as of yesterday. I gave her metacam but will stop that because I know it’s hard on their livers.
I also am tube feeding her baby parrot food with pedialyte twice a day. She has lost quite a bit of weight. Today she’s had trouble standing and is tipping over.
Is there anything else I can do to help her? Any suggestions. TIA.

I'm sorry she's not doing well.

Sometimes remedies may be offered as supportive care in addition to the medications.
You'll have to do some research/reading to determine if that's the course you want to take. Often it's worth a try.

@coach723 has mentioned using Aloe Detox when treating Chicken Hens that have fluid in the abdomen and/or certain reproductive issues. The Detox may help reduce fluid and offer some comfort.

@LaFleche has mentioned using Milk Thistle for various ailments, she may be able to chime in or you can do an onsite search for Milk Thistle under her username and find many posts.

Also I believe @Hen Pen Jem has mentioned using Milk Thistle, you can search her posts as well.

Very sorry your girl is declining despite all your efforts @ForDuckSake

I don't know much about ducks, but in case she is suffering from Duck Viral Hepatitis (very contagious) there is not much you can do as there is no known remedy or cure.

In case the inflammation was caused by bacteria she can be treated with antibiotics which you are already doing.

But some medications can also be the cause for hepatitis, so it is hard to know or decide what to do at this point other than render supportive care in form of herbal teas, easily digestible protein and grated vegetables with a bit of germ oil and maybe additional vitamin B complex as well.
Artichoke can help with liver issues, but only feed the soft parts like heart or add the dried content of capsules to her feed twice a day.
Dandelion is kniwn to help with liver problems too. Feed her the fresh chopped young leaves or get some pure dandelion juice from a health food store.

There are also products as teas/capsules available containing all three ingredients.

Milk thistle is very helpful and can be given as tea instead of water and adding the dried content of capsules to her feed.
When my pullets got very sick (already totally yellow skin and just sitting on their hocks with eyes closed) from a feeding frenzy on creeping buttercup I fed them the content of various capsules per day plus milk thistle tea with oregano as main ingredients. They all survived without further issues.

How much does she weigh now?
