Mushing

Mine was a Siberian Husky, a whopping 55 pound dog!

But man, could she pull.
She was outside in a fence yard every day for most of her life. I always knew when it was going to snow because she would insist on laying on the porch, nose in the wind and a smile on her face. :)
And smart! We had to design a special gate latch so she wouldn't let herself out of the yard.

I wish it would snow!!!

Hey mushers. G-day eh!!
For those of you that are especially interested in Siberian Husky I found a easier way to explain the breed rather than write a story.
On your goole search bar type in Chukchi Dog, search, click images, scroll down 16 rows, far right a very old black and white photo of Indian looking couple with a baby in a cradle board(a dog in foreground),click it. When it opens click on "visit page". "Siberian Husky History" open.
Lots of old photos of what the original Sibe looked like as opposed to the cookie cutter standardized, inbred, genetic weaklings of today.
Another search is Siberian Laika.
Interesting and eye opening for some of us.

this one??

The lady we bought our Irish Setter from ran a sled team of big reds during the winter. She kinda lights up when she talks about it and it sounds like the dogs love it also.
These are happy dogs!

I have been wondering about the list of breeds for the team in 2 years - why an Aussie? are you taking Australian Shepherd or Australian Cattledog? isn't that breed smaller than the rest of the dogs?

Well for one, i don't like herding dogs for mushing. Most are very self pleasing. By that i mean, when they are done, the sit or lay down and don't get up. I tried running a border collie....didn't work. On the other hand, not all of them are like this, My mentor ran her collie one time and he ran fine.
Height doesn't often matter ,at least for me, size does though.
I really don't know why Stern has her heart set on long coated dogs. I would use German pointers, labs, and other short haired gun dogs.
