Mushroom foragers

If it helps any mine were found in a predominantly oak area. There are pines as well but 200 feet away. We also have a weed tree called California Buckeye and it's in this section of morels as well.

The map guide you posted didn't have any spots found this far south in California, at least when I checked last week. They must have loved the record rains we received this year.

There is one more coming but it's getting too dry here now should I cover it with a plastic cup to give it a more moist environment?
Oh boy, get out the sprinkler... I have been known to do that, when I saw something coming on and the rains had dried up. It worked, too... In my case I was watering the trunk of a tree in my orchard. I get a pretty reliable fruiting of Pleurutus ostreatus (oyster mushroom) from there every year. That's not supposed to grow on apple trees but fortunately, the mycelium had not read my book.

It is my experience that there are exceptions to every rule and that mycelium are very poor readers.

Good I was thinking that might work. I'll water this afternoon. Poor illiterate oyster mushroom.

Wow, congrats! What a great find!!!

Thanks, My cousin did not want to come with me today as he thought it was too early for them around here. When I texted the picture of the first 2, he texted back, come and get me....

He has been doing shrooming for 50 years and never found black morels around here, we normally have yellow ones.

These really hide well. I am going to try again on Wednesday or Thursday we should be back to 65ish then.. Today and tomorrow is snow and 35ish.

@duluthralphie I bet your cousin is a great person to go on a foray with! Wow, that's a lot of experience! I bet the wisdom just oozes from his very presence, LOL!

On the snow, we got about 16" over the last 3 days. It is supposed to warm up tomorrow, maybe I will finally get a chance to get out in the woods and just see what is going on. Here is hoping it warms up, both there and here!
