Mushroom foragers

Pics
Chanterelles

I had a nice find this Labor Day Weekend. I was almost busted harvesting them. But played aloof about it as I took photos. As soon as the person turned the corner I started cutting them to take home.

"False Gills" These gills do not have any visible spores on them. They seem to be more part of the cap then the usual mushroom gill. Convulutions of the cap really. But shaped like gills.

Ditch of little Gold Angels waiting for me.

I did not bring a mesh bag! Long flannel shirts work though.

Waiting to show the fishermen my find!

Butter, Garlic Salt, Pepper and these Chanterelles had their final resting place on our Charcoal Weber Kettle grilled Sirloins. Oh Delish!

BC you won the battle of goodies with the fisherman, you can buy bullhead anywhere, you cannot find Chanterelles in the store.

Those look so good. The Monsoon season has returned here to the banana belt of Minnesota, so I should have a ton of shrooms to pick when it ends.

Ralphie: I know you'll have to split your nursing duties, chicken wrangling duties with mushrooming. But I do hope to see more mushroom pics from you. That chicken of the woods was amazing! So when you harvested...did you just take the outer rings? (most tender?)

I know the cost of the wild shrooms are expensive. My cousin is nearing retirement, he suggested we take one of those classes the state requires to sell shrooms, and harvest them in retirement for a few extra bucks.

I actually think if you found a market you could make a good living at it.

I harvested that Chicken that evening. I just took the "outside" and left the main part on the stump. It was so tender I did not have any dried edges at all. There is a smaller chicken growing lower down on the stump, but I have enough so I am letting it go.

I want to get some puffballs though, I do not have any of them dried for winter. I have a small jar of Chanterelles dried. I know some people say not to dry them, my cousin has dried them for years, if you have a pizza and have reconstituted them they are great additions to the pizza.

I also have a jar of chicken (about 1/2 gallon) for soups and stuff this winter. I need puffballs!

Are you not supposed to harvest them?
