Mushroom foragers

Pics
It's been out there all week. It's starting to go funky I'm sure. I have some photos I'm loading. My Lunch hour was not productive with it's walk in the woods but found a small corral fungus.

Very Tender and new. I left it there.

Poisonous or Inedibles.

The rest of the Walk was mostly Poisonous mushrooms galore. They are beautiful Nonetheless.

And I've decided to break the rules one more time as these are not hopping in my basket: They are being left in the woods and just admired for all their strange beauty.

Destroying Angel

Chlorociboria aeruginasceus fruiting bodies. Not often seen...it's just usually the green rot or green stain that woodworkers see. Just read that interestingly enough it is considered an algaecide and it is currently being studied for cancer fighting properties. DO NOT EAT THIS THOUGH.

We have lots of that last one... I just thought it was a tiny fern or something  silly me. Bummer it isn't edible.

We tried to eat ferns this year... But it was a bust... All the ones we had were covered in brown scales...all of the Internet said they rub right off..yeah right!

We finally gave up and moved on to true edibles.

Thanks BC for all that info and making one post per shroom. That made it easy for us..

That red one is not a mushroom, I cannot find it in any of my books so it must be something that looks like a mushroom and not a real mushroom.

I am looking forward to the "hunt" on Sunday. We may not find much but we can teach each other the little bits we know...

We went on our BYC Mushroom hunt, JerryS Bogtown Chick and myself. We had a fun day but not lots of baskets of mushrooms.

We got quite a few lobsters and a few chanterelles. We spent a lot of time looking at mushrooms and trying to guess what they were. We mentioned more than once we needed you more experienced foragers with us.

We walked 4-5 miles up and down hills and through blow downs. My legs feel it.

But I just finished my first ever lobster, it was great! Now if I do not get sick life will be better. My wife loved it. The texture and taste was quite different than the other wild mushrooms we have tried. It is on my list of ones to keep.

I would say by the time we walked back to the car we were over 5 going on 6 miles Ralphie. Plus putting up with hills and blow downs definitely put the miles in a different perspective. LOL. My Fitbit loves me right now. My legs not so much.

We saw a beautiful Chaga specimen.
Lots of beautiful Amanita and Artist Toadstools. Those big hens and chickens eluded us though. Was hoping for some of those. And a few more chanterelles. I'm so pleased you and Judy liked the Lobster mushroom. They are neat and usually good sized for a meal. We'll have to figure on some morel hunting in the spring. It seems we are getting at the end of the season for late summer/fall fare.

I think I'm going to get a Kayak or Canoe and go out on Hunter Lake... Every time I'm there...I'm in awe of that gorgeous little spring fed lake.
