MUTE SWAN BREEDING SEASON DRAMA STARTING ALREADY

Hi there, Im from the thumb of Michigan.

I have 2 mute swans, both males. I really like them most of the time but can say to anyone who dont own them and want them, just a heads up, the poop is really bad. If ya hate geese poop, swan poop is worse! If it was'nt for being in love with my 2 boys, they would be gone! LOL

But I love feeding them bread and teasing them ( they think its a game) but its funny how both are under my feet everytime I go the the barn. They defently have personalities and I enjoy watching them strut their stuff in the water exspecially when people walk by. I dont have mine in a pen, just free range. Most of the time they do fine BUT I do have a creek and they take off to the neighbors pond down the rd. So I have ta go retrieve them (or 1) a couple times a yr.

I lock them up in a horse stall during winter months so nothing can hurt them and ohhh boy are they not pretty then LOL But by time spring arrives, it takes only 30 min for them to turn white again!

I have a Jack and a Joey here!

Scratch and Peck, when you mentioned Sid, I visualized him being "Sid Vicious," and then found out you have a Nancy also. Am I right?

Swans are super poopers indeed! Jack and Joey sound like nice guys - more friendly than mine. Maybe they are nicer because they don't have any females to protect or were they hand raised?

I just happened to check back at old threads. I guess I should subscribe to a thread that I actually start. Sid was named for Sid Vicious. He was named by his previous owner. As far as male swans go, he is not all that mean. He will try to flog anyone who is near the nest in breeding season of course. But he is not as bad as some males. The guy who had Sid before, had another male who would try to attack the riding mower when it went nearby.

looking for cygnet or young swans, if you have any for sale call me 765-432-8028
I don't have any cygnets right now. I used to live in West Lafayette, IN, btw. Have you checked the Indiana Department of Natural Resources? Do you need a permit to keep mute swans in the state? I lived there before I had swans. Each state is different regarding their policies. Black swans have fewer restrictions generally because they are considered an exotic. They also tend to be nicer than mute swans.

Only 1 boy was hand raised. He and his mate was raised by my sister from babies. But at 3 yrs old, the female got tangled in fishing line and drowned. Then she moved away 2 yrs later and the male (Jack) came to live with me. I bought a young female for him (Josie NOW Joey) But after 3 yrs, hes a boy. LOL

So Jack is friendly and eats from my hand and Joey is a lil shy, but when it comes to being at the barn, both are under my feet following me everywhere till I feed them. :)

Hey, are you selling Mute Swans? If so would you ship them? And do you need a permit for them? Thanks
