BTW, Greeters, thank you. It was so refreshing and touched my heart to see so many here who wanted to help this rooster. I get so tired and sad about the "off with his head" statements that are made so fast by some members.
I understand that it is best for a chicken to have a flock and to be outside....and, it is where they want to be. I also appreciate the "ideal" and most "natural" flock environment is a rooster and his hens with a lot of coop and outdoor secure space; as the best.
As @janiedoe, I have a disabled hen I rescued that cannot walk and has to be in the house. As Janie, I wish she could be with her flock, but that is not possible. I take her outside and walk around with her so that she can be outside, and of course, I have to feed her and give her water.
We also need to keep in mind when giving @Ruscul advice about getting hens that this is a double-edge sword. I find that roosters are much nicer to humans when the hens are not with them. When they are with hens, they do their God given job, that is to protect and that may mean protecting against a human.
