My 2 Easter Egger's have stopped laying, why?

It my understanding the light is the major controlling factor is a chickens laying cycle. Even though you live in southern California it's still winter. Less light.

My EEs wouldn't lay for me.... I tossed them a lil catfood and the next day I had two EE eggs out of four hens

New years present! That plus I have been running a timed light the last two weeks. Your supposed to start it in the morning that way the light doesn't turn off suddenly and leave them stuck on the ground to sleep for the night

Wow! Thanks for the note of starting the light in the morning. I did not know that. I will go outside and turn it off now! That makes total sense! Thank you, Thank you! Thank you!

Not knowing exactly where you are in California it is likely that the amount of sunlight today is likely to be the same as the last day that particular EE dropped an egg.

Farmers almanac has a feature on the top of their web page (www.almanac.com) that will let you customize sunrise/sunset for your area. I used that when I ran light on my birds. Towards spring, I decreased the light accordingly.

I think it's hilarious you got an egg! I bought an incubator last year. The day it arrived, I had 6 hens go broody. I had ZERO broodies the day before. What gives?

Thanks for the wonderful info. I will def. check out the site. My hubby already has set a light on a timer to start up at 3:00 am tomorrow morning. The sun usually rises approx around 6:30ish. Hopefully we will start getting some eggs. I currently have only 2 eggs in my frig. Cant feed a family of 4 breakfast with that and I DO NOT want to buy eggs from the grocery. So hopefully this will work.

Hahaha! ANd I do not know what gives. If you figure it out please tell me what the secret is. Hehehe!
