My 2 hens are very loud!!

I have 5 hens and 3 of them are very quiet but my two barred rocks are soo loud and I live in a neighborhood where the rules are, if someone complains I have to get rid of all of them, and I don’t want to have to get rid of them but I can’t have loud chickens!! Does anyone have any suggestions on how to keep them quiet?!

Hens can make an unholy racket at egg laying time. It's futile to try to quiet chickens that are operating solely on instinct.

Instead, figure out which neighbors are most likely to complain about the noise, and make them into co-conspirators by gifting them with a dozen eggs on occasion. It's human nature to keep your mouth shut about something you are personally benefiting from.

Some chickens just do seem to be louder than others.
Maybe rehome or butcher the loud ones, and replace with another breed?
Or plant lots of bushes around the chicken coop? Enough leaves can make a big difference to how far the sound travels.

Are they doing the "egg song" or just talking loudly all day? If they just have a lot to say, they might be quieter if you give them more things to do. (I'm thinking something like a compost pile or a mound of dirt to dig through.) But even if they will be quiet with something new to scratch at, it can be difficult for you to keep providing new things for them, so you still might want to consider replacing them.
