I have a 4 month old black copper roo that got his leg hung in a wire cage. It doesn't appear to be broken but he is not using it at all. In fact, he's not even trying to stand at all, he's just kind of perched on his side. He's got an open wound in the knee area and I've cleaned it good, I'm just not really sure what to do now?? He's eating and drinking good and I've got him isolated in a small pen. Do I need to wrap it or is it better to not wrap it?? He's a really nice rooster and I'd like to save him if I can but I also don't want him to suffer. Any advice would be appreciated! I've had chickens for years and have raised meat birds several times but this is my first real injury so I'm kind of clueless.........

Put neosporin on the wound or wound dressing...the rest is just letting him rest. Might put some vitamins in his water to help him along. Vitamin E also. Keep food and water close and keep him separated so he doesn't get hurt more..feel his leg up high to make sure nothing feels popped out.
