My 4week old chicks are getting nasty

Have you ever put 2 or 3 kids in the back seat and took a road trip? Kids get bored and start picking on each other before even getting halfway to the destination. My word is if they are not hurting anything or each other let the kids play lol even the ones with feathers!

It's been in the 80s here in KY, too, then down in the 50s/low 60s at night for the last few days...so I completely understand where you're coming from. We have a severe weather line moving through tomorrow late afternoon/early evening that is going to drop us down into the low 50s for highs until Sunday, so this weekend will give us perfect weather and timing to get their pasture fenced before we turn them out on Sunday once the temps get back up into the mid 70s and 50s at night.

Well, I spoke too soon.

I heard all kinds of squawking as I was getting ready for bed about 2 hours ago, so I went to check it out...

Found two of my babies with bleeding injuries. One EE had had almost half of her tail feathers pulled out, and an Aussie had a few wing feathers pulled out. :/

I immediately set to making seclusion "cages" of 1'x1'x2.5' in two corners of the brooder by using scrap poultry fencing, and bent the extra 6" in towards the top opening to prevent climbing/flying out, gave separate water and feed containers to each, and scared the living daylights out of the ones not in the cages. Since it was 11pm, I didn't have access to Kote tonight, so seclusion is going to have to do until I can get to town for what they need. The others were picking at them horribly, and what I'd heard was them squawking in pain and desperately trying to get away. Poor babies!

They're all roosted and quiet now, so I'm headed to bed after a long day of tilling, planting, sweating, and stinking - with no shower because I'm just too danged tired to think of a shower.

We had a lot of rain during the nite, this morning, there were earthworms all over the driveway so I took a couple and cut them up and gave them to the chickies, at first they didn't know what to do with them, then one grabbed a piece and ran with it, then the rest chased him down and stole it, after a while they all caught on and had a fun time running around with pieces of worm. Maybe this will make them tired...

Mine are 4 weeks old and spend their days romping and jumping on each others heads, and their nights sleeping together in a pile. Im more concerned about the constant chatter from those little girls irritating my neighbors.
