My 55 new chicks arrived today! ALL DEAD

I have to agree with you. About 2 years ago, my son and dil bought some chicks for me, which by the way, is why I'm sooooo hung up on them.

They came from Ideal, luckily all were alive and very healthy, we had a small order of I think it was 5, and of course what you guys call packing peanuts too, which turned out to be roosters, no problem though, found them good homes. Give it a little while and try them again, I think that they are a good hatchery. Just my opinion.

OH NO!!! Poor babies!! That is so sad!!!
I'm sorry you had a bad experience! Was this your your first?
I would give Ideal another shot. It sounds postal as opposed to the birds themselves!!
Is Ideal the closest hatchery to you? Trip time makes a difference. I try to get closer to home if I can!
It's like riding a horse, you have to try again and again even if you fall off

I wonder if it is taking longer at the PO since DHL went belly up? Maybe they have an increase in packages and are behind due to increased volume and no increase in staff. Just an Idea.

I have ordered from Ideal (as well as other hatcheries), and Ideal has always had the best customer service. Last year I ordered 30 chicks, some Giant, silkies, delawares, barred hollands. 2 were DOA and 4 more died within 2 days. I emailed them to let them know what I had lost and asked if they could replace the 6 birds when they could. 3 weeks later, they reshipped the WHOLE order, 30 more birds and all were fine. So no complaints here.

I also ordered some silkies from a breeder in florida in Jan. Between the 2 of us we watched the weather for over a month. Last week when it was in the 50's here in MI, we emailed each other and said "quick, it's a go". She shipped on Monday and they arrived on Wednesday and all were fine. (I needed therapy though).

Sorry to hear about your loss.

For some reason I have noticed that its mainly chicks that were shipped out Monday. Mine shipped out as well, but thankfully mine were all good to go. I work with the post office so I know mail was still moving Monday. Mail trucks are always running, no matter what. Still its a sad thing to hear when so many chicks arrive DOA.

I am so very sorry that happened.

I know it has to be heartbreaking. It is definitely a PO problem, though.

They are honestly being terribly careless with these little lives lately it seems.

I hate to use a time like this to ask, but I just have to know, what is that rooster in your avatar? He is amazing!!!!

It really makes you feel rotten! And you don't know who to point the finger at...

I had mine from MM all arrive feet up. The PO didn't offer me an option to send them back. I went and picked up the sad box and had a tearful little funnel for 36.

Shipping chicks is hit or miss proposition. We just missed!

Mine are coming from Ideal this time and I picked a warmer date. Plus they are the nearest to me. I won't order from a distant hatchery again, unless it's warm weather. Not too warm!

I wish you the best of luck on the next!
