My 8 month old Barred Rock suddently puffed up.

She has been laying good. Suddenly she pulled up her upper back and tall feathers.

She walked slowly. She was able to get on the roost at night.

Because I switched the layer food to grower with oyster shells maybe it didn't agree with her. The rest of the flock are okay.

I was advised by this group if we had molting chickens to go back to more protein and oyster shells. Since we only had one molting chicken we thought we should give all four the grower/oyster in case they may be molting.

I think we may have made a mistake. I'm keeping the food on layer not grower with oyster.

I hope she lives.

I doubt if the feed change mattered, because most chickens really go after a higher protein feed if given the chance. I would check her inside the vent with a rubber gloved finger inserted an inch or two for a stuck egg. Other things to look at may be worms or coccidiosis. Look her over for mites and lice closely too, and make sure that her crop is emptying by morning.
