I have three 8 week old chicks purchased at a local feed store who are supposed to be pullets. For the past two weeks, one of them has been making sounds that seem like crowing. Could anyone tell by looking if this chick is a he?
Thanks!

I'd give it some time. I had a hen that developed full on rooster characteristics, began crowing and walking around all cocky, even began to develop saddle feathers. I almost gave it the axe and then one day it laid and egg, stopped crowing and went on to be a very robust hen. sometimes the hormones get unbalanced as they reach sexual maturation. I'd give the bird pictured above a few more weeks to see how the biological chips fall.

the second one looks more like a cockeral to me, the first one could still go either way, IMHO.
Thanks! I will definitely wait it out. I don’t have a rooster so it may not be a bad thing to have one in my flock.

If anyone has Instagram, I posted a 13 second clip of Dottie (the first chick pictured that’s black and white) making the crowing type noises. Please check it out and let me know what you think. My Instagram is FallingViewFarm.
Thanks!
