My African geese (2 ganders) are sick what do I need?

Harry, Epernix is very safe to use, but when I treat my flock no one is sick. I don't want to be responsible for something going wrong with Scar face, I am just suggesting what could be used to treat internal and external parasites. If your worried then I'd take some poop into a vet and let them do a fecal to see what kind of parasites your dealing with. You dif don't want a huge load dying all at once in him, that may cause some problems for sure. if your just wanting to kill off the lice then you could just dust him but I don't know . efficient a dusting on a gander would be trying to get all his feathers dusted. then your still going to have to treat from internal parasites. I don't know maybe do more research if your apprehensive.

Feeding him food grade dichotomous earth will kill all worms in his intestines, and it can even be used to dust him for lice and external parasites. You can easily research DE online and order it. Just make sure it is food grade.

I use to use DE[food grade] inside my coops and to keep down parasites. It didn't work here, we got a mite infestation inside the chicken coop and my chickens still got worms, so now I use DE just to keep the feed fresh inside the container I keep it in. Back then I used poultry dust to kill the mites and Valbazen to kill internal parasite.

How is Scarface today?
Hello MLyd, I missed your posts these few days. How are things going with your non-African geese?

Missy still laying?

Hi Miss Lydia,
I sure wish Missy would go broody for you. Seems like she keeps laying eggs so far last year and this year. I wonder what her magic number is of laying and then going broody...?

I have been really busy taking care of my geese and the new goslings. Then turning eggs. Right now cooling all the different set of eggs I have that takes awhile. This is a busy time of year for me.

How is Scarface today?

Hey! His face was getting better to start with but now seems to be no progress. Think I need some stronger antibiotics for that just don't think the Tetracycline is strong enough, taking too long. I just got the Epernix today and it's supposed to rain tonight and tomorrow, so I haven't put it on him yet. Was kind of scared about it since you said none of yours were sick when you put it on yours, so I'm worried about it now, with his eye being infected like it is, he rubs his face on his back and anywhere he can reach to rub it. I was wondering also about that stuff getting in the pool water that he bathes in and getting into his eye and him drinking it also, cause he does drink the pool water when he's in there bathing. Doesn't have a free flowing pond to swim in where there's fresh water always coming in. The pond that we have is really muddy where rain water runs in it is all, no spring or anything like that. I would like to get maybe some Cipro for him to clear up his eye and face. It is some better though than it was. I have put some electrolytes in his water for the past couple of days also. When you put the drops on their neck, where on the neck do you put it, high up close to the head or down lower, maybe about midway down the neck? Just don't want him to get it into his drinking water and get it on his face and in his eye. Someone said that I might could mix some Tylan and water and mist his face with it. I don't know. He stands at my door a lot wanting to come in and stand around with me. I was letting him in to watch TV till I saw the lice, now I can't let him in again till they are gone, but he still stands at the screen and hollers at me wanting in all the time at night especially.

Hi harry. You haven´t treated him for lice yet??? The powder would have been fine. You have to kill the lice without delay, poor thing. If he´s struggling with lice sucking the life out of him, he´s not going to be able to fight off other infections so easily. And you´ll not want to give him the stronger antibiotics just yet if he´s weak.
As regards his eye, i´d keep him out of that pond! That could be where the trouble is if it´s dirty water. Give him a kiddie pool to go in and have a splash about, then change the water every day. Did you put ACV in his water for him to wash his face in? It´s natural, and very good and won´t harm him at all. And if you put treatment on him, and then he goes in the water, it´ll be so diluted it shouldn´t be a problem if he ingests it. And you can put the drops on the back of his neck where he can´t quite reach with his beak.
Sorry if this post seems a bit strong, but it´s been a long time he´s like this. Kill those lice. Oh, and the lice prefer geese, so don´t worry about touching him either. Looking forward to good news.
