My Ayam Cemani hatch-a-long!

I totally understand the cost piece of it. Its really hard because honestly they're not a very productive bird. They're really just a cool bird to have. But they're not good egg layers, not really good for meat, etc they're just really a novelty. So I've wanted one for years but would never pay the price. Now that prices have gone down and I got an incubator I decided to save money and get eggs, well on top of them being crappy layers they don't really have the best hatch rates either. I bet at this point I've paid the $20 a chick since I've had so many that didn't hatch.

I know it's been a week, but really? I mean, I hear they are great broody mothers, but they don't go broody often. Was she just a momma bird?

We ended up losing her in the cold snap last week, but even before she actually started laying, she was always trying to go broody. Laid the prettiest eggs though

She was. We lost her brother like 2 days ago to a broken neck. Not quite sure what happened to him

Sorry things got crazy around here! We had 9 babies hatch, all doing very well. We unfortunately had a bit of an accident with a kiddo who accidentally squished one so we are down to 8 now
