It's quite possible that the post office will call you at whatever time the chicks arrive, no matter if they're closed. We've received phone calls at 5:30 am and 6:00 am and picked them up shortly thereafter, before they opened for business. Our post office doesn't like to keep the "peepers" any longer than absolutely necessary - and if yours is anything similar, you might consider planning to take off work early or take the day off so you can pick them up. Oh, and our most recent batch of chicks shipped from Springfield, Missouri at 4:30pm, and arrived at our post office the next morning. They were in shipment only 13-1/2 hours, when we were told it would be 2 days. Just be ready. Call your post office in the morning to check and give them your phone number. Have your brooder ready and warmed up to 100-degrees, with warm water and feed, BEFORE the chicks arrive.
