My baby's face is red!!! What's wrong??!

I have clay soil. My chickens area is on the grass, but I can go scoop up some topsoil and let them play in it.

When I move them around I put them in a box with a towel over it. I know they don't like it, but what else can I do? Would it be better if I carried them in my arms one at a time instead of the box?

That's ore or less what I do, but I have a piece of chicken wire fitted over a crate. They still freak out though, so I'm not sure how good them being able to see out does.

Not sure if you can see clear,but this guy is usually cherry red in the mornings and the hot evenings he’s super pale in the face,but healthy and flying all through the cage.

These are my flock "protectors" Dino on the left is 18lbs, and Loki is about 9lbs. They are more of an alarm system, but I know shortly after something is in the yard that shouldn't be.
Get a dog!

American Hairless Terrier!
They are basically a Rat Terrier with a genetic "oops" that was stabilized.

Ah, rat terriers. I have read that they are good with chickens. But another reason my chicks gotta go is my step-dad hates them and wants them gone, the mean man.

That is sad that you must rehome your flock. Perhaps your stepdad would like them better if they had a chicken coop outside to live in--something sturdy enough to withstand the wildlife. And if he ever gets a taste of a fresh egg, that could change his mind too. Is there any way you can set them up with a secure coop and run?

I have a few RIRs too and I think the red face looks normal. They are energetic birds and very sensitive to their environment. Seems to me that face color changes are sort of like our facial expressions.

Maybe convince him to let you keep them,what bothers him?
