MY Banty COCHINS are NOT COCHINS

I agree with some of the others.

They look like PQ Blue Cochin bantams to me or maybe OEG bantam x Cochin mixes...could even be 75% Cochin, never the less I would get the kids new 4H birds...

I would talk to the person you got them from if they are the breeder of them, S/he should either give you back some money, even if you keep them or replace the birds with a trio of pure breeds or take them back with a full refund. If you bought pure Cochin bantams that is what you should get, evenmore so if s/he knew they were for 4H, FFA, breeding or shows. If s/he isn't the breeder but ordered them I would just let it go.

I am sorry & hope you have better luck next time.

They look like my Blue-Bell, Just got her about 3 weeks ago and I thought I was getting a Silkie

I'm just a beginer, but your birds look a lot like the pics I've seen of Blue Andalusians. I think they're lovely, though you have plenty to be sad about if they're not what you expected. You can probably get your money back by re-selling them on craigslist, if you want to try again. Good luck.

I got them from a breeder. She does this for a living. TONS of different kinds of chickens and small live stock.Yes I told her my kids were going to be showing them as blue banty cochins and said I needed show quality. I guess this is the chance you take when your new and not sure what your looking at.I didnt pay a ton of money for them but still, I drove quite a distance to get them. She had them advertised as banty cochins. They are sweet birds and pretty as well. I'll just have to wait till spring and find what I need then because Im not set up to care for chicks or very young pullets.Just getting started and need older birds ( 8 weeks or so ) thanxs for all the advise I really appreciate it .
Just wondering how much I should expect to pay for GOOD QUALITY BLUE BANTY COCHINS? anyone know. I paid 5.00 a bird for these.

If you are looking for SQ birds, you are going to have to expect to pay more than $5 a bird. Some breeders will give 4-H'res a discount, but I would think it would be closer to $50 ea. at least for started birds. It's really sad that someone would take advantage of a newby.

I will pay what ever the going rate is for good birds. Again I'm new and just learning my lessons now I guess.and what does SQ mean? I just really don't have room for a bunch of birds that we can't show.I have 8 for the eggs and can only have a bout 6 for the kids to show so I need some nice birds.I did find a lady on here that sells what I'm looking for I just have to wait till spring to get them...thank you everyone for all your imput.this site is awesome for newbies like me

$5 is a good price for a laying hen, so if you don't get attatched, you can likely get your money back by reselling them. Look at lots of pictures of the breed, read the threads on here, and learn as much as you can. Even though you bought them from someone who bred them, that doesn't mean that the seller has nice birds. What you bought may have been the best he's got!

SQ means a lot of different things, depending on where you are showing. Just entering a bird in a show doesn't make it SQ, as evidenced by my efforts to campaign my bantam Cochin. I thought she was gorgeous, but she placed at the bottom in every show I brought her to. At a small fair, she'd probably clean up!
