I would be disappointed too
This is my fear. I’m not terribly fond of how marans look, but I ordered some purely for their egg color. I’m really hoping for dark eggs! Most of my eggs are the color of the egg you are holding

I do hope yours get darker with time!

Oh no! Double whammy! This lady is *supposed* to be a very reputable breeder.... But I've had nothing but trouble so far with her birds . I drove 4+ hours return to pick them up... Only to get home and discover one had a HORRIBLE case of SLM . All three are ridiculously skittish, they very rarely leave the roost... And now this. Sigh. I see her posting far and wide about her top quality birds, and it's getting harder to bite my tongue.
EDITING TO ADD: yikes, I sound awful . None of this was intentional on her part, she's not a bad breeder or person!! I just got momentarily discouraged. And I meant my last comment to be tongue-in-cheek; I would *never* publicly call someone out!!

That's ok. I got my current flock who was so skittish that they wouldn't even come outside. Nothing against the previous owner or anything! She was overwhelmed with them and they never had the time spent with them. She took great care of them, but when dealing with a lot of birds it's hard to train them all as pets. I've spent a lot of time with my current flock and now they're really friendly. You just to be patient and spend lots of quality time with them. As far as my Maisy- the person I got her from wasn't who bred her, she originally came from Mt. Healthy Hatchery.

Yay!!!! If only my Maisy's eggs would get darker too. Her's are getting lighter instead.

Good to see the eggs darkening. I found some of my dark layers start out really light before darkening so I don't really worry until half a dozen to a dozen have been laid. These are both from a Welsummer a week apart

I know pullets typically lay darker eggs that get lighter over time.... But I'm crossing my fingers it's the OPPOSITE with this girl!! Here's hoping her ink jets are just warming up

Not sure if this helps, but I had an egg just like that from one of my FBCM’s a couple months ago and I haven’t seen another one since. I think it was an anomaly.
