My beloved rooster seems to be dying... HELP!

Other than water I think you are doing what you can do. You could try just a little sugar in his water or pedialyte (sp?) If you have any antibiotics left over laying around you could crush that up in his water give by dropper and start that. I don't think at this point it would hurt. Don't worry about dose. I have in the past just given 1 ml/cc every 4 hours or so. Without a diagnosis from a vet you ( the generic you-that means all of us) are just stabbing in the dark. I have had issues with my flock (3 Years) but have not lost one yet although I was sure I was going to. Birds are sensitive to alot of things; I believe support care can go a long way. Keep him in a dark place during the day as well, this put lets stress on him.

I have raised several million chickens in another life and have made some general observations. The chicken population is a lot like the people population; accidents and early death, illness, recovery, premature death, stroke, heart attack, old age. You name it. The position of your bird, and the clenched fists, he is hanging on for dear life. Maybe he will make it. Maybe he won't. Do not think it is poison. Just a normal chicken thing that sometimes happens. Six years old is pretty good. Have found some of the strongest chickens are the ones that live through an episode like what you describe. Chicken vitamins and electrolyte solution in the water is potent medicine. In all honesty, six years old is like the old folks home. Some get sick and that's that. And some leave in an ambulance and return meaner than ever. Either way, You will know soon. Save the vet money. No guilt trip. There is nothing a vet can tell you the guy at the feed store doesn't know. Best wishes to you and your rooster friend.

Sad to say but you do tell the truth and tell it like it is. For some of us our birds are our joy. Even though what you say is true we hate to see someone or an animal suffer that brings us joy. Sounds like the Rooster friend brings Joy to someone. So I say yes take care of your Rooster as best you can. You have the satisfaction of knowing you tried.

Well, Foghorn is still hanging in there and I'm going to go to bed. I'm keeping him in the house tonight. Thanks to all for your concern and compassion- he's a well loved rooster for sure. I'll let you know what happens...

Well, Foggy is still hanging on- He stood up and gave a pretty good crow this morning from his basket. He is still very weak but definietly better. My brother just left for the feed store in escalante to get antibiotics, mite dust and worm medicine. Thanks again for the support last night- I was CRYING.

I have NO idea what he has or could have. Sorry hope he gets better!

The fact he is still hanging on is a really good sign. I guarantee he can tell you are pulling for him. A cool damp washcloth to just to wipe his face and head now and then might keep him a little more perky. I have watched guys at cock fights put their chickens whole head in their mouth to help them make it through another round. I stopped in the middle of the day to check in and see how your chicken was doing. Please keep us posted and know we are pulling for the both of you!
