My blind rooster gets to be a babysitter!

Seeing your blind rooster with the baby just made my day! Thanks for sharing. I have a blind Light Brahma hen, that we call Stevie. She moves her head like Stevie Wonder does. She has been blind since she hatched. I keep her separated from the other birds, but I let her scratch around in a special pen outside sometimes. She is a sweetheart.

lol Thank you about the name, folks. We wanted to give him something that fit. This morning when I went out, it was dark out still and kind of chilly. That little white Leghorn chick had gotten in there again (a name that fits an escapee for that one, perhaps?), and he had let it snuggle up underneath him, the same way a hen does to her babies. That almost made me cry, it was so cute! I didn't have a camera on me though...rats!

Aw, wow! Out of curiosity, how did you know she was blind when she was a baby? Or did you find out when she was a little older? That's so sweet! I like the name, too!
What kind of pen do you have for her? Is it like a regular chicken tractor type thing? I need to get one built for Ray...he needs to be moving around in the sunshine more, and getting some greens.

I finally introduced Ray to the babies today. The banties are big and fast enough to get out of the way in case he accidentaly steps on them now. I was a little worried that the bigger chicks would try and bully him, but they were actually terrified of him at first.



Little Ray was impressed with his charges. I'll be going out in a few hours to check on them.
