I have a broody hen and today I've noticed that her Tail is down. She is moving and seems fine. She did take a dust bath. I'm not sure if this is part of broodiness. I just lost a hen a few weeks ago and I really don't wan't anything to happen to her. She is a black Australorp 8-9 months old. Does anybody know why?

Have you've given her a good looking over? How long has she been broody? Is she getting thin? Most broody hens slowly lose weight until they break from being broody.
I have a just about 1yr old who went broody 2x this past summer. The second time she did lose alot of weight. She hasn't laid since summers beginning. She then melted in December after being broody until November. She now looks better, eats, moves, runs, but her tail is down. Any idea why her tail is down now? Could she maybe be needing to lay again? She's not squatting or anything either. Literally put her tail straight out after cleaning.Ugh
