My Cake Just Imploded

Man.... I'm trying to cheer myself up by baking a fruit cocktail cake and it did the weirdest thing. It cooked on the outside and collapsed in the center into a mound of brown sugar goo. Darn it all. I have never seen such a thing and I make this cake all the time! What on earth causes that?? Does anyone have any better recipe???

I've never evenheard of it...sounds good! How do you make it?
 
It's just a white cake, with a can of fruit cocktail in it and brown sugar on top. It's soooo good! WHEN IT DOESN'T IMPLODE.
