So I have a few questions.. My cayuga hen just laid her first eggs this morning, and I was wondering how the process worked. Does she lay more eggs? Will she sit on them? How long will it take for them to hatch? And also my drake is a mallard is it possible for him to mate with her? I've seen him try a couple times but i didnt even know if that even worked? Please help! Thank you.

Patience, grasshopper. It's a holiday.

Congrats on your eggs! She didn't lay them all today. She will lay up to one a day. She may or may not go broody. Only if the mood strikes her. If she does start seriously setting, it will take 28 days for them to hatch, only once she starts setting.
You may as well take the eggs and enjoy them if she is showing no sign of broodiness.

Your drake very well could be successfully mating your duck. Just depends on his abilities.

Congratulations!

Not much to add to what terrielacy has offered, where there is a will, a drake will figure out what to do. If he is young he may need to work on it for a while before it goes the way it's supposed to. Someone here wrote of a young drake who would hop on backwards, so patience is key.

May it all go well with you and your ducks.

Im a little confused because you said that they only lay one egg, but there were not any eggs in the nest before?! ha ha

Okay. So. My female has laid four eggs in two days. She's for sure the only female we have, we made sure. We also know she hadn't laid them one a day because we scoured the pen three times and then the next day, the two eggs were out in plain sight. Also, Google claims cayugas can lay two in a day if they're new to laying since their hormones aren't all sorted out yet.
