I was looking at your method 1 and method 2 and was considering trying the method 2 next time I set duck eggs. Doesn't taping them in make candling a bit trickier? Or do you take them out and then re-tape them.

So are ducks really that much different than chickens? I stick chickens in the incubator, narrow/pointy side down in the turner, and almost just "set it and forget it" and hit at about 90% conservatively.
