My Cayugas are hatching.

On a happier note ... the one weak duckling is doing so much better today.

Ok, so though I'm not getting overly optimistic ... there is still a small glimmer of hope. Something very clearly went wrong and it was closer to the end of the process but there are 2-3 eggs that may still have a chance. (There was movement, however slight, in one and the other two still look "normal".)

One of the duds that I pulled stopped developing with no skull development at the back of the head, large yolk still outside of the body, etc. Other than that, it looked like a normal duckling. Kind of weird, really. he ones that looked really bad I was afraid to open because of the smell. I probably should suck it up and take them outside and have a look.

Do you have safe holes?

Humidity at 80 WAY TO HIGH, 80 will kill them. So what or whoever suggested that OMG, they are wrong. Is today your due date? Have you candled them. are you turning them by hand or by turner? How do you have them set in the turner end up?

The confusion on the humidity seems to be the difference between wet bulb and dry bulb. It may be too late for these last guys but I'm not giving up yet. Other duck eggs are in another incubator doing what I used to do and I'm feeling much better about it all.

Much as I absolutely hate that this batch went so wrong I am glad it wasn't three incubators full of duck and goose eggs!

Meanwhile my chicken eggs are doing great, as always. I guess with time and experience the ducks will be as old hat and easy as the chickens.

Sorry, completely missed some of the questions ...

The eggs are narrow/pointy side down in a turner ... I have candled and ended up tossing much of what was left ... still have a couple that I believe may still make it but given how bad the humidity was screwed up, I'll be shocked.

Safe hole? I may know what that is but not by that name. Could you clarify for me? Thank you.

If you want more then 60% hatching rate, TRY laying them down. You may be surprise and get up to 80 to 90 Percent'

make a small hole at the air cell, Just a little hole NO bigger then a pen tip. You don't need to see the little guy when you make it. it just helps them breath so they don't run out of Air.
