My Chick is Flopping Around! Help Please!!!

One morning my chicks woke me up because they were thrashing around like they were having seizures. It was very weird. They finally got up and went about their business. I figured they were dust bathing. In the saw chips! Still it was very disconcerting!

We separated her last night and this mornings she's still alive and appears to be well I think. Poo looks normal but I can't tell if she's eating or drinking now and she's not pepping up and being active like the other group does when I come into the room. She did her thing again and it just looks so creepy. This time I noticed because her head was down by the water and I was trying to tell if she was drinking and then she flopped around. I have now noticed the others dust bathing and playing in the wood chips, it seems different. Guess we'll just watch and wait.

Update on Chick Woman...can you tell my 9 year old named her?:) Pretty sure now there was/is something wrong with her, just not sure what. She was getting really lethargic. We went out and got Nutridrench and forced some down her with a dropper. When I set her down she flung that head around and flopped on her back. We felt around on her but aren't sure what she's supposed to feel like. Didn't see any obvious deformities or bugs. Someone wondered if maybe it was impacted crop, not sure. But after a few hours she is now acting back to normal, which is what made me realize there really was something wrong. Now she's not just pecking at food and water I can tell she's eating and drinking and she's digging around etc. Hope that was that but we have electrolytes and probiotics in the water and we switched all of them to medicated feed.

I know zero about this, but the symptoms almost sound like epilepsy to me...Do birds get a version of this?

I don't know enough about chickens to know either but thanks for mentioning it! I looked it up and found this thread/video...on Backyard Chicken of course. It's not exactly what she does but it's the most similar thing I've seen so far. Interesting...Off to read the rest of that thread.

Don't know if anyone is following this but just in case someone runs across this thread in the future. Impacted crop/sour crop was recommended in another thread and I discovered she has a very enlarge, squishy crop. So we're going to start trying to treat for that. Ick. LOL.

I don't have any personal experience with this but your pic reminded me of pictures I've seen referring to "stargazing" - where the chick throws its head back and appears to be gazing at the sky. Sounds like it's a vitamin deficiency. I've read that it can be treated by adding the liquid infant vitamin PolyViSol to their water. You get the vitamins WITHOUT IRON. I'm not sure of how much to put in the water but a search on BYC should give you that info.

Found a thread regarding it - https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/742876/stargazing-wry-neck

The way her toes curl it looks like a seizure. Definitely not dustbathing. Not sure if a chicken can have a seizure but that is what I saw when looking at the pictures. I know you are not hardcore but I would say cull her.

We have chicken success! It was apparently sour crop. Last night we force fed water with eloctrolytes and probiotics twice with a syringe. We massaged her upside down. Nothing came out and it seemed the same size. Today we planned more of the same but the mass has cleared up! Here's hoping it was that easy.

She also might be sun bathing. That always lay over to one side with a wing out. You can look up your order on the computer with Meyers if you ordered by computer or just register. They also have great phone assistance and can look it up. Chicks occasionally can still get Mareks even with a vaccine in a small percentage.
