My Chicken Coop (New Photos)

WoodlandWoman-You know alot about dogs! We did what you said with a Rottie. She is the best dog we have ever had, but it took one on one for a long time. We worked very hard with her behavior and introduced her to all of our livestock from day one. She spent lots of quality time with the kids. We never allowed any games that would allow her to be aggressive like tug of war. She is now very protective of me and the kids. For some strange reason she has taken on the responsibility of keeping all the other animals away from the brooder. She won't let a cat or dog near it.

Scott-
Are you still around?

Or did you just drop in once, create a ruckus in the "hen-house", and then "fly the coop"?

Meg

(BTW, am I the only one who now notices just HOW MANY expressions we have which appear to be of chicken origin?

Maybe we should start a thread on listing all those expressions!)

Nifty-
Thanks for the links; I guess it really is true that there is nothing new under the sun. I had not searched for that topic, so thanks for saving me the time.

I have one I don't think I read:

"Mean old biddy."

One of my hens picks on everyone unmercifully, and someone on this forum called her a biddy. I never knew what that meant, so I looked it up in the dictionary and it said, "adult female chicken".

Huh! Who knew?!

How did I miss all this excitement? Here I was, reading about chicken diarrhea when I could have been here! Scott, I do declare, you have created quite the ruckus! (Ahem, for the record, I'm neither old nor married

lol)

Wonderful looking coop! Your chickens are gorgeous and look like they'll be quite happy in their new home!

Hey Meg,

Yeah, I'm still lurking around. I went out of town last week, so I wasn't able to log on much. However, to my surprise, some of my pullets started laying while I was gone. As of today, they have laid 11 eggs so far. I wasn't expecting them to start laying for another month or so; they are only 17 weeks old. Nonetheless, its been kind of exciting around here with that going on.

Hope all is well in your neck of the woods.

- Scott

Thank you. ;-)

They certainly seem happy. They started laying last week! I was all psyched-up when I found that first egg.

Pretty much everything she said.

If you do, I don't think you will find a better protector for your chickens. I don't know much about this particular breed but I do know about working breeds. From what I briefly read, this one seems to be a very good working breed representative. As long as they have a job, they are as happy as can be!

It doesn't have to be real complex really. Just give him/her a job, socialize him and give him lots of attention and he/she will repay you multiple times over!

I know there is a link in here about a great German Shephard dog. I just love hearing those kinds of stories.

Good luck!

LamamaGalina? Be truthful with me now but, have you been on the greg show? if not there was a lady on there that looked exactly like you. Ok well if it was you no wonder why your husband would give anything! gosh, but tell him to go eat pleasure food like women do instead of that.
