hello i just got my very first chicken a rhode island red rooster and i noticed he scratches his head with his claws or rubbs his head on the floor of the coop. Is this normal or just dry skin or mite or lice, or something worse.

Have you checked his ears, he could have something stuck in them and can't get it out? Nine times out of ten if they do things like this on a constant basis then you can bet there is a problem some where! An avian vet check up sounds good so long as you post the results of what is causing him to do this! This could also be why he were parted with by his original owners, they sometimes don't want to deal with problems in chickens and will give them to others to care for while claiming they're healthy. I learned this the hard way!

theres times were it looks like he's when he doesn't eat or drink, but he starting to do it just when he eats and drinks

My girls do that if they have eaten something that is a little sticky like the banana I threw out there yesterday(they didn't like it much), or the cooked potatoes I shared the other night.

Most of the time it's because there's something stuck on their beaks and they haven't figured out napkins yet.

Your baby should be fine.
