My chicken sang the egg song!

I found our 1st & 2nd eggs today. The white one is a large store bought, hopefully our last of those, just for comparison. I don't know if they were laid today or yesterday. I work a 24 hour shift, my wife didn't check the coop yesterday when she let them out and I found these this morning when I got home.

Zarafa121, you lost me there. I have never warm farmed but I have hoteled them over the spring, summer, and sometimes through the winter. I sold worms for 4 years and decided not to do it again next year. What about the beetles?
Sorry for the vagueness of that post. I am raising mealworms and am getting a lot of help through another thread. Mealworms go through four stages: larvae, pupae, beetles, eggs. I hope to have enough to take the girls through the winter. I was just comparing finding a newly emerged beetle with a newly laid egg.

Well, now I understand. Wow your are really devoted! I thought I spoiled my chickens. Sounds like a great thing to do. I gave my chickens nightcrawlers and they weren't real thrilled with them. I think they like the thrill of the chase. They love bugs. They do love the mealworms too.

Yes, the chase - both to catch the bug (currently large grasshoppers and crickets) and then to keep the other hens from swiping them. Such fun to watch

and cheer them on!

I agree with that! One of mine had a huge bug the other day and everyone was chasing after her. It was my Sebright. The others couldn't catch her. My grandkids call her Road runner. She is so fast. It's real funny.

Lol we call or little old English game Bantam hen road runner also. She's so tiny compared to everyone else but she runs super fast on those tiny little legs with her chest up lol

My little sebright chased my cat out of the chicken pen yesterday. I heard the cat meow and went out to see what was wrong and he ran out with my bird right on his tail. Funniest thing ever. My cat is twice as big as the chicken and afraid of her. I told him that's what he gets for chasing the chickens when they first came. My S actually chased him into hiding. Hahahaha

Sometimes I think I bore my friends with stories, and sometimes I know I do. It's nice to be able to share stories with others who know and appreciate a sweet chicken moment. Last night I was digging my garden around, and all four hens were right there scratching with me. I think they were waiting for me to unearth a tasty morsel, which I did - a fat worm. I believe I am their mom, dad, and pseudo rooster! This is the place where we can let all of our "chicken addictions" hang out! Thanks for your stories!

Well, my daughter thinks I am obsessed with my chickens. She gives their chickens tough love. LOL The chickens actually are her kids project and she doesn't do any more with them then is necessary. She's getting better though. My two year old granddaughter loves the chicks I hatched for them. That's another story. She has tamed them and can catch them and loves to hold them. It's so cute. I have to give up one of my chickens. My Pearl turned out to be an Earl and the bad thing is I'm going to let his BF go with him. I would feel bad separating them. They are like peanut butter and jelly. I'm fortunate to have someone that will take a rooster. People just don't want them very much. I sold them 3 Leghorns so these birds will be reuniting with them. I should have not procrastinated about getting Earl a collar that stifles the crowing. I'm sad about giving them up, esp. both of them. So, you don't bore me. I probably bore others though. lol

sssharon, I can't believe it's been over a week since I've posted on this thread. Must have been a busy week! Sadly, I guess, the grasshopper and cricket population is diminishing, and the ladies are getting into the newly seeded rye and buckwheat in the garden, so they are now sequestered until the seed is firmly sprouted and rooted. I like letting them out, but I also need to build up the soil in the garden - a tough call to make

. I am finding children are drawn to this idea of feeding, petting, and gathering eggs and can get excited over the smallest detail. Most of them don't think too highly of the droppings, though
