My chicken was attacked graphic pics

Poor Chloe passed away before bedtime tonight. At least she isn't in pain anymore.

Sorry for your loss. Those looked like some nasty wounds, but I suspect it was the shock from the attack that did her in. I hope you find out how she got out and/or what attacked her. Predators are good at finding weaknesses in our defenses.

Thanks. Still a puzzle.About 3:30 am, the dogs started barking outside. I went out to check on things and they were ok. I locked the dogs in the house so the neighbors would not call the cops for barking dog. At 0700, I took the dogs out to go the bathroom. There was Chloe- not in the chicken yard. I have a 6 ft privacy fence around the yard and a 4 ft wire fence around the chicken yard. A couple of weeks ago, I trimmed their wing so they could not fly over the fence. It was 32 degrees last night. Whatever got her dropped her outside the wire fence, but did not get to eat her. It had to be about daylight because with that cold, she would not have lasted long being in shock. An early hawk? A late owl? A cat? I don't know.I think a cat would have gone for the innards instead of the head- sort of think it was an owl- but why did it drop her? Maybe we scared it off with the commotion of getting the dogs outside. Anyway, I locked the coop and will let them out in the morning when it is safe.
That does seem odd. I wonder if she didn't go in to the coop in the evening? Maybe an owl or something like that got her and decided she was too big and dropped her. I don't know. If it was a racoon or something they would have killed most of your hens given a chance. The best thing is to make sure they are all locked up safe and sound overnight. A fully enclosed run would also be good but I know this isn't always a quick and easy fix.
