MY CHICKENS ARE PLUCKING THEMSELVES TO DEATH

Pics
New coop finally all set up!!!! Hopefully the ladies like it! I also hope it helps with the pecking! I have been mixing oyster shells into their food and on the side. Took about 3 days to set up with minor manufacturer errors.

(By the way just 2 chickens will be living in this coop)

Congrats on the new coop!

You need not mix anything in with their feed. Having oyster shell on the side is much better. It lets them choose based on their bodies needs.

So DID you acquire additional birds? If so where are they going to be living?

Oh and a sprinkling of shavings on the tray will make cleaning infinity easier.

Okay thanks!! Would you mind sending me the instructions for the mackerel again? Sorry I lost it!

The two new silkies are my roommates chickens, they are still young and inside with a heat lamp. She will be taking care of them and acquiring a coop and all their needs, so I won't be their primary care taker, gotta focus on these little stinks!

Good to hear she's getting her own coop! This one will fit 2 birds... snug, but way better than where they were. Ventilation is lacking a bit.... but it usually is with prefab coops. May want to look up adding ventilation options for prefab coops.

How would you recommend adding more ventilation?

To feed mackerel there are lots of ways to do it.
Many birds will eat it straight from a spoon.
It would take me all day handing bits to individual birds.
I mix a wet mash every morning and days I am giving out mackerel I mix it in that.

For just 2 birds I would add warm water to 1/4 cup of their layer feed. Just enough to make it the consistency of cooked oatmeal. It takes a few minutes to absorb all the water. Then mix in about a Tablespoon of mackerel. They should gobble it up.

Also not sure if you saw but my chickens free range all day, so for just sleeping I believe this new coop is PLENTY of room for my 2 ladies! 3 laying boxes.

Perfecto thank you so much for all your help and responses through this interesting chicken journey!
