It just makes me happy when all of them are doing it you know you have a serious laying flock then

They did that today and they were foraging it was so funny I really hope my rooster doesn't crow to much he is such a pretty boy and I don't want to have to rehome him I live in the suburbs to. I think if my neighbors complain I will just ask them to rehome their barking dogs

Our neighbors' dogs on the chicken coop side of the house bark. non. stop. when they're outside.

I gave those neighbors 6 eggs and feed the dogs treat whenever they shut up to keep them happy. Maybe they should be giving me something to keep me happy?!?

Does the early morning squawking have any correlation to when the lights come on? If you go in my coop and turn on a light at night, they all start to carry on very loudly. Then add the egg songs, you have quite a commotion.

Shops that sell pet supplies, especially reptile supplies, have non-light heat sources that might be a better choice, since it wouldn't wake them up and start them squawking. Here's one:

Many flocks do just fine with no added heat, but I don't know how cold it is where you are, and the jungle gym-coop is obviously not insulated. So if you need to add heat, here's a way you can do it without lights.

There are other ones, but I couldn't find them. Somebody posted about a 60watt radiant heat emitter, that didn't get as, so is safer than the ceramics, they don't burn you (or the chickens) if you touch them.

ETA:found it, on that same page

I understand the neighbor factor. Now I am wondering if they are complaining that the light switched on??? Is it a red lamp or white light? What about covering the clear plastic with Blue Tarp?

they are white lights. I thought about red lights but i dont know much about them so i didnt want to like start a fire or something hahah. well the thing is is that the jungle gym is about fifteen feet tall and to buy enough tarp to go around the clear stuff is expensive. the clear stuff allows me to be able to look at my chickens from a distance. and i mean i will hopefully be building a new coop this summer so i dont want to spend more money on something i will just be taking down ya know.
