My chickens dead?!

This morning I let my 8 healthy 1 year old chickens out into the run...about an hour later, I notice one down..she is dead!!
What could have happened? are my others at risk? Does this just happen sometimes for no apparent reason?
I am worried!!

It can happen for no apparent reason, as you say.

If you think back, were there possible ysmptoms that you may not have noticed? Chickens are great about hiding illness, often until it's too late to help them, because weakness in a flock animal means getting expelled or killed by a predator.

So sorry for your loss. It's so hard to lose these wonderful little critters.
