I have a 2 1/2 month old chick that laid her first egg today. It was very small and it did not have a yolk. She also laid it in the run. Are they going to get bigger or was this a freak thing. Also do I need to do anything or will she start going to the coop to lay her on her own.

That is the youngest I have ever heard a chick producing an egg -- albeit yolk-less.

Usually 16-20 weeks or more is when egg laying starts. Yes, the eggs do get bigger as the pullet matures.

Make sure you are providing good nutrition, plenty of fresh water - and calcium like oyster shells available. She will probably mature into a nice layer.

Will she learn to go in the nest to lay or do I need do something

Our first ever egg was in the run, the next one was in the box. Maybe it surprised her :) After that our 3 slightly younger hens all laid in the box, so I think they saw the older one. If she does it again, move it to the box and leave it there for a while.

Our 4 babies (10 weeks old) all sleep in the boxes. It cracks me up.
