My chickens got attacked HELP!!!

I let my dogs go outside not knowing my brother didn’t close the coop door and they got ahold of one of my hens. She has a really bad wound. They ripped half her skin off I’m not sure what I can use at the moment. I have Neomycin Sulfate Ointment? Don’t have antibiotic cream or much that would help right now! What else can I use???

Did you wash the wound out? You can use Vetericyn to wash out, Neosporin without the pain relief can be used. Not seeing what we're dealing with is hard. Could you post a picture?

Treat for shock, Nutri Drench would be a good idea. Bring her in and keep her quiet & cover the cage. See if you can get her to eat/drink. Hang in there, will call for the more experienced for help ....

Thank you! No I haven’t but I’m about to and I don’t have any of that stuff but I’ll try to get it tomorrow.

You can also flush it with saline solution or just even distilled water. Keep it clean and keep her quiet.

Wash it out gently. You can make your own saline solution with salt and water. Not sure of concentration but tastes salty.

Amazingly skin wounds heal well if not pecked by others, so making sure to separate or using blue coat, although that can slow healing.

Watch her. Offer electrolytes if you have them such as chick saver or make using water with a pinch of sugar and salt.

Cottage cheese and scrambled eggs help to boost energy.

You can also use raw honey as antiseptic and barrier for the wound.

Sorry to hear of the accident. It only takes a moment.

Hopefully she will rally soon. The wound doesn't look that bad as long as she didn't sustain internal injury too. Be sure to listen for whistling or other distress sounds or symptoms.

The others have given terrific advice. I will add that you want to wash or flush the wound each day and keep it moist with a simple antibiotic ointment such as Neosporin. And watch her for signs of infection such as lethargy and loss of appetite and redness and swelling around the wound site. You would then need to give her an oral antibiotic or injectible penicillin.

Chickens heal amazingly well from even the most gruesome wounds.
