WELL I'm trying fermented feed today. Fingers crossed! I find some of them (specifically the red girl pictured above) tend to gobble dry feed and then readjust their crops a lot. I wanted to introduce mash so maybe she'll digest it easier, and then I figured if I'm making mash I might as well ferment it.
So far only a few show any interest. Here's hoping it takes off!

How are you fermenting it, back slopping or for a fixed amount of time?
 
Since this was my first day I just mixed a batch, covered, and let it ferment for two days. I put a little ACV with mother in to start it. Stirred it and kept an eye on the moisture lvl. It's indoors so the temperature is around 75 or so.

I'll use backslop methods next time though since the first try (in a larger tub than the second) has plenty of bubbles already. I'd hate to waste all that liquid!

It smells more vinegary than I expected. I've made sourdough before but never fermented anything like this.
