Hi Katie,Thank u where thinking about taking her to are framer friend because her whole leg has to go but she's still active I'll try to do the suger water thing but where seeing how to kill off all the maggots like *vinegar like and salt? Where going to do vinegar only on the parts she dosent feel anymore I'll pick out the maggots we bought stuff to do so I really want her to live and even if I have to help her 24/7 I'm ok with that I was always caring her around anyways
Can you have your Mom read the posts that have been made on your thread?
I would not use vinegar and salt. You can add salt to the water if you wish, but omit the vinegar. A mild dish soap like Original Dawn works well for cleaning the wounds and drawing out the maggots. You can also use an antibacterial soap like Dial Gold.
The wounds need to be cleaned really well and all that brown stuff needs to come out.
I'm sorry you're having to deal with this and I know you are doing all you can.
If you do have a farmer friend that can assist you that would be really good. Let them help you access the wounds and the condition of your hen. Quality of life, the severity of wounds and if she's able to fight infection should also be considered. Sometimes a decision to end suffering needs to made as well. I know it's hard and not always the outcome we are looking for, but I know you care for her very much and wouldn't want her to be in misery.
Please keep us posted.
