How old till they start layin eggs? I got my poults in april

Depending on breed it can be 18-26 weeks as an average but even longer for some - and of course there are those pullets who don't read the book and realize when they are supposed to start, lol.

My Aussies are almost 15 weeks old, and the suspense is killing me! I can't wait to see an egg in the nest box.

I just hope they aren't one of those coy chooks that wait until they're over 6 mo to lay.

I had someone tell me today they could wait til they are a year old? mine are getting near 6 months old....

Yeah, I have had some wait til they were a year old. I REALLY hope my girls don't do that!!!

mine are Rocks, NH Reds and Easter Eggers, all suppose to have been bought at 'point of lay' now 5-6months old..........

I am so excited for you--I got my chicks March 15----I am so ready.. I have the nest boxes all ready and they keep inspecting them but nothing so far. My roosters are starting to crow everymorning now...it is hilarious--they sound like clown cars..

My chickens started laying one week ago. I was not prepared for how excited we would all be, every single day. It's like Easter. Every day. Who gets to find the egg?! Haha. Anyway, we started with one egg the first day, then two eggs the second day and today we got three eggs! Here's our collection so far:

We got all of ours as chicks from local farm stores and the first egg came from our barred rock at 19 weeks. We now have three barred rocks and one brown leghorn laying!!

Maybe I look in on them too much? I went out to clean pen and feed/water and noticed some were bathing and checking out the straw inside the 55gal drum. so I left them alone til they were all out grazing again. How often do you look in on your girls? Generally look in 3-4 times a day counting morning turn out and put up in the eve. I do notice all the older girls seem to follow me around and get closer now on their own.

We bug them all day, but at least three times a day we check on them. I think climate and food can have an affect. I usually put food in the run and the coop. For a few days that they didn't have food in the run it seemed like production slowed. Maybe coincidence? Idk. We have nine though so I feel like I should have two feeders and waterers, as some are smaller still and growing...
