My chickens wont go in their coop!

I am a new chicken mama and I have 2 roosters and 4 hens in a new coop that is raised off of the ground about 2 feet with a ramp to go in the coop. I hung their food from the roof inside the coop just above the roosting bars. They refuse to go in and eat. I even out a trail of food into up the ramp leading to the feeder but they will stand on the ramp and not go any further. Any suggestions?

shut them in the coop every night and eventually they will get the hang of it. and if they are hungry they will go in

Hi and welcome to BYC. Chickens are creatures of habit and hate any kind of change. You may wish to keep them closed in the coop for 48 hours (food and water available, of course) and then let them out and see if it helps. Keep following your routine, and they should come around to the idea eventually.

If you could post a photo of your coop, maybe we can see something about it, that is putting the birds off of using it. Are these mature chickens or chicks?
