My chicks hate to be left alone

I got some chicks the other day and I've been spending a LOT of time with them.
But when I leave the room or out of their sight they cry and chirp and carry on and I feel so bad for them, but I can't spend 24/7 with them.
They have a heat source, food, water, a place to hide and something to snuggle against. They don't cry when I'm around and will often follow me

Any advice? I don't want them feeling distressed when I'm not around.

Can they get away from the heat source to a cooler area? If you're sure they're comfy and have everything they need, go away, close the door and go about your life. They'll get over it and settle down to take a nap. They need lots of naps, that's when they grow. Oh, you've checked them for pasty butt, right?

Yep, all good and healthy, they can get away from the heat source.
Everything is fine, they are fine when I'm around but just cry when I'm not there.

You are their mom now. You just have to walk away and do other things sometimes, don't feel bad, they have each other for company. Soon they will learn that you are never truly far, far away. And.... they will content thhemselves more and more with company of their own species, which is good for them.

They are in a brooder but I take them out so they can explore WITH me keeping an eye on them. If I get a glass of water that's on my table across the room they'll all follow me.

I would not do this. For one thing, if they are less than a week old, there is a good chance they will chill. For another, we hear stories of people stepping on their chicks when they do this, and it's heartbreaking.
