So this is my mixed Rooster. We had to move him onto the porch last night due to bringing home new birds, among them was a smaller rooster that was with the flock of 7 hens. Our guy is huge but I was worried about him and the other rooster going at it- the other rooster has sharp spurs and my boy doesn't have them....so he is on his own for a while til we get our big run finished.
Anyway, I know he is a mixed breed but he is so tame and friendly, we are going to keep him around as a pet. He feds from your hand and comes running when he sees you.

He is gorgeous! I wish you luck with him and your other birds.

About the spurs, I've heard of some people trimming or filing them. You could probably do this with a nail file, but I'm not sure. You might want to ask about this in another forum.

I love mixed breed chickens, they often have the best temperament, he's cute. I have many that come running when they see me...love the full run chicken race, lol. I have two that even barricade the feed shed door by sleeping in front of it.... About spur removal...you can take a pair of pliers and grip then twist, they will pop right off leaving a much shorter spur...may bleed a little, but no concern.

Oh, he looks like my Domino! I saved him from the crock pot because of his distinctive looks and gentle disposition.

I have a few roosters, and they all get along, but they grew up together (or grew up as chicks hatched by my hens). I don't keep more than four roosters for my flock of 50-some chickens, 20+ ducks, 3 turkeys and 2 geese. My dominant rooster Carl just makes sure the other roosters do not mistreat the ladies and respect the pecking order.

He's a stout looking bird. He's definitely worth keeping if he's friendly.
