My dad just ran over Baby

silkiechicken, its not cement its gravel and her head was squished so her eyes had been flattened into her head, but her body was also squished so when i picked her up she was really really flat and i could feel and hear all the snapped bones in her body moving about.

If it is any consolation, your chick would have died very quickly.

I know how you feel about your dad, though. My husband left our coop open a few nights ago (usually do this myself, but I cannot walk right now) and the fox killed 6 of my girls....including 3 twelve week old Brahma hens. I did manage to go and buy myself some more chicks without him complaining too much......not trying to put ideas into your head though! Your dad probably feels really rotten about what he did and is trying to play the situation down.

Though it isn't your dad's fault, he ought to show some remorse at least.
I agree that it's odd she didn't get out of the way... we have some pretty stupid chickens, but they always get out of the way of the lawn mower. (They don't go in our driveway.)

Yeah

wev'e never had it happen before, i think its because they were hungry as the hadn't been fed yet cus my mum was out buying more corn, so they crowded round the car and couldn't get away in time.

That is really too bad! I'm sure your dad feels awful about it, but sometimes men don't show how upset they are about an animal dying. Our poor neighbor ran over her own dog a couple months ago----it was sad because she really loved that dog. The dog just decided to run up to the car as she was coming home in the dark, and got too close. I also ran over my son's cat one time when I was leaving for work on a dark, rainy morning--- he must have been under the car trying to stay dry. I felt so horrible---my son was only in kindergarten at the time, and that was a very special, loving kitty. It just happens sometimes. Hope you get another chick like that from your roo.

thanks

actually just a few days ago a special little brahma chick hatched which is grey with a red streak down its back, true little special one!

Just on a lighter note, a few years ago now our neighbour ran over a fox (!) whilst coming up our drive at night. She apparently reversed over it twice just to be sure. Maybe his relatives paid us a visit last week though.
