The care she has received has been a nightmare. Just since I posted my thank you's to you guys she was given something she had an allergic reaction to and the crash cart team of 13 people filled her room. She's ok now and resting with 2 good nurses on duty, but this all has taken such a toll on her, both mind and body. Thank you so much for your prayers.

Prayers said. This whole thing is just HORRIBLE!!!!! I remember when Ken' monitor summoned the crash cart. There is nothing scarier!!!

Prayers and hugs for you and your family. Being ill is bad enough, but hospitals can be dangerous places. Hoping for a speedy recovery and no more emergencies.

Thanks so much, and she appreciates knowing that others have thought of her.

rrrmamma, you're so right. I've been at the hospital 12+ hours a day and then someone stays with her at night. She's never left alone, and because of the things that have happened she's terrified of being alone there for even a minute. For good reason and we watch like hawks but still bad things have happened.

Deb, I'm sorry that Ken and you had to experience that. It is a very scary thing for even the well initiated.

This is the 2nd time she was given meds she's clearly allergic to. The first time was when she was 30 seconds from being wheeled into the OR for the emergency surgery. She said she couldn't breath right and the OR nurses poo-poo'd it saying it was just nerves. I checked her skin and there were whelts all over it. I told the nurses she's having a reaction and the docs (not even hers) that were mulling around recovery in the OR rushed in and ordered treatment. Had I not been there to insist she would have been put under general in that condition. Come to find out a nurse had taken it upon herself to decide that DD was not really allergic to it and had injected her IV with the med that was all over her charts that she was not to receive due to allergy.

There is so much more that has happened that it's unbelievable. I haven't even been able to put it into words. This last allergic reaction from a mystery injection given by a disgruntled nurse that was called to task by the head docs for her behavior is beyond comprehension.

My gosh! They deliberately injected her with a medicine that she is KNOWN to be allergic to, and that is ANNOTATED on her charts? Something she is never had before or that is not noted is understandable, but this was NOT the case? Hope that nurse lost her job!

Sonoran,..happens all the time in hospitals. My grandmother was allergic to sulfer drugs...
Can not even tell you how MANY times they STILL gave her meds with sulfer in them..
It got to the point that we told them... NO MEDS are to be given unless we know what they are beforehand..
They didnt like it..but oh well..

Good idea Redhen!
My MIL is allergic to a number of things. Her doctor knows this. It's written on her file, inside her file... everywhere except on her bleeding forehead! He still gives her the stuff she's allergic to. He nearly killed her once or twice.
And sadly we've had even worse hospital and doctor negligence cases in our family, but I don't want to stress Dewey even more than she already is, so I'll shut up now!

How's your DD doing now?

Everybody, thanks so much. She was released late day yesterday when the 4th CT scan showed the stint had not been dislodged. Every day for her has been horrible and last night was no different, except with less pain meds. She finally drifted off to sleep for a little while around 5am this morning. She was able to sip some broth last night and has been able to finally keep some down today. (She's been receiving massive fluids the whole time in the hospital but she has lost almost 10 pounds from not being able to eat.)

Tomorrow late day the surgeon will do the procedure to remove the stint. That procedure is one of those barbaric ones that is done without any anesthesia (although it is put in place under general anesthesia). But hopefully tomorrow will be the last worst day

for her and then several days after it's removed the pain may start to decrease and the bleeding slow down as she begins to heal. This is what we're praying for and also that there's no other kidney complications from surgery or the initial cause of the problem or now the strep throat. The surgeon said it's fairly common for the bleeding and pain to continue for a few weeks after the stint is removed (from the removal itself).

I will give you an update when I can. Thank you for all of your good thoughts and prayers.
